Evan Tammen 025Evan Tammen serves as the oboe instructor at Millikin University and performs with orchestras across the region. He was awarded the Theodore Presser Scholarship as well as the Katherine Riedelbauch Baker Music Award as an undergraduate at Illinois Wesleyan University, and was the winner the University’s 2008 Concerto/Aria Competition. While pursuing his Masters and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees at UIUC, Evan served as principal oboe in the Wind Symphony and was awarded both the Edmund C. Williams Award and the A. A. Harding Award for excellence in bands. In addition to having participated in numerous ensembles at UIUC including the New Music Ensemble and the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Evan also served as the teaching assistant for the oboe studio, giving weekly lessons to select music education major and non-major oboists. After completing his doctoral coursework and passing his qualifying exams, Evan began working as the Operations and Personnel Manager for Sinfonia da Camera, the professional chamber orchestra affiliated with the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Illinois. In this position, he was tasked with soliciting sponsorships for the orchestra, which served as his introduction to the world of advancement. Evan especially enjoyed the developmental aspect of his former position and is fully investing his energy and passion into this fulfilling work in his role as a director of development for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He continues to serve Sinfonia da Camera as an advisory board member.

Evan formerly served as the oboe and bassoon instructor at Illinois College in Jacksonville, where he taught several undergraduate students, and served as the oboe instructor for the Conservatory of Central Illinois. Evan is the principal oboe for the Heartland Festival Orchestra and the English hornist for the Champaign-Urbana Symphony, and often appears with many other regional orchestras, including the Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, and the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra.

Evan is married to a fellow oboist, Angela Tammen, who, in addition to serving as the Assistant Director of Enrollment Management for the UIUC School of Music, also performs regularly throughout the area.
